US halts military aid to Ukraine

US President Donald Trump on Monday evening ordered a halt to all military aid deliveries to Ukraine, according to several US outlets.

The White House is "pausing and reviewing" the aid to "ensure that it is contributing to a solution", an official told the Associated Press.

The last shipment of ammunition and other equipment agreed under the previous Biden administration in early January was signed just ten days before Trump took office in January.

It is worth $500 million and includes all kinds of defence equipment, according to the Pentagon.

The decision comes just a few days after Trump and Zelenskyy clashed in the Oval Office.

The move is likely to increase pressure on the Europeans, who are looking for ways to speed up arms production on the continent and find cash to fund their defence needs without the US, and end up giving Ukraine what it needs to get the edge over Russia.

Over the weekend, several European leaders met in London to offer Zelensky an alternative strategy for negotiating a peace deal and to discuss increasing defence spending on the Old Continent. EU members are expected to meet on Thursday to discuss money issues based on a proposal presented on Tuesday morning.
