Labour asking supporters to hand over tax cuts to fund election bid
Do Labour like the tax cuts or not? Are they too miserly or are they enough to help fund a campaign?
In an strange plot twist, the Labour Party - vehemently opposed to National's "irresponsible" tax cuts - is asking its supporters to hand them over.
"Kia ora Friend," the pro forma email from the party's general secretary to supporters begins, "No doubt you saw the Government's Budget yesterday. Nicola Willis had choices, and the choices she made were bad for New Zealand."
The email passed on to Stuff goes on to ridicule and bemoan the amount Kiwis will get from the tax cuts, before pivoting to ask for them to be donated to the party to help get Labour re-elected.
"You may get a few dollars in tax cuts, but they come at the cost of services that Kiwis rely on.
"Friend, will you donate some of your tax cuts to Labour?"
Labour justifies the seemingly contrasting statements saying, "That way, the tax cuts really can help create a better future for Aotearoa New Zealand - by getting Labour back into government."
