Six commissioners rebel against plan to use taxes to help fund budget in MFF pitch
Six EU commissioners are against using taxation to fund the next EU budget’s own resources component, Euractiv has learnt.
The rebels include Italy's Executive Vice-President for Cohesion and Reforms,
Raffaele Fitto, Greece's
Apostolos Tzitzikostas, Romania's
Roxana Mînzatu, Czechia’s
Jozef Síkela, Cypriot
Costas Kadis and Portugal's
Maria Luís Albuquerque.
They all raised reservations about the Commission’s draft budget plan to generate own resources through taxes, sources say.
The draft budget proposal
seen by Euractiv includes the introduction of new taxes on
tobacco, large companies, electronics waste and carbon emissions to help fund the EU budget.
