Farmers protest ‘super fund’ plan as EU budget talks heat up

As the EU budget presentation keeps the Brussels bubble on edge, farmers’ associations rallied outside the European Parliament on Wednesday, voicing strong opposition to the European Commission’s proposal to merge the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) with the EU’s cohesion fund into a single “super fund.”
Around 100 members of Italy’s Coldiretti association gathered on Luxembourg square, waving banners and chanting slogans like “Europe is not Vonderland,” in a jab at Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.

“In every part of the world, every state increases the resource for agriculture, because agriculture is a social situation. In Europe, we decrease the resource and also we create a situation very dangerous for us, because we put the CAP in a single fund with cohesion and the fish sector,” Ettore Prandini, national president of Coldiretti told Euractiv.
“For us, this is both dangerous and unacceptable, and we want to change it,” he added.
According to Coldiretti, between 200 and 300 protesters from many member states also joined the demonstration.
