CAP could fall below €300 billion in next budget
Funds earmarked for the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) in the upcoming seven-year EU budget are currently below €300 billion, according to a draft table seen by Euractiv.
The figures remain subject to significant change and could just be one scenario under consideration. If confirmed, it would mark a significant cut from the €386 billion allocated for 2021–2027, dealing a strong blow to the 62-year-old flagship policy.
It remains unclear whether the proposed envelope would cover only direct payments to farmers (Pillar I) or also include rural development support (Pillar II).
