EP budget chair to Commission budget chief: This is not okay
The Parliament's budget committee chair Johan Van Overtveldt just interrupted proceedings with Budget Commissioner Piotr Serafin.
"We see that President von der Leyen is giving a press conference and apparently she's giving more information than we get here," Van Overtveldt said.
While the Commission's budget chief Piotr Serafin sits across lawmakers in the Parliament, his boss is facing the press across the street in the Commission headquarters.
"There was a clear understanding that we would get the information, then afterwards the press would get the information," Van Overtveldt said, calling it "a very unfortunate incident".
"There is a lot of goodwill in this house, but you are really emptying in the bucket," he added, to applause from the room.
Taking the floor again, Serafin defended the timings: "I believe I finished the presentation before the president began talking to the press”.
