An image of a street in Wellington's Berhampore suburb shows cars being swallowed by flood water.
The photo was taken by Bibi Hawkes from her bedroom window on Emerson St during the severe weather event.
Posted on social media, the photo attracted hundreds of comments including many thinking it was AI generated.
Another said "Is the photo real? Cars submerged but waters at doorsteps only?"
Sadly for Hawkes it was real.
"That photo is real but looks unreal, so crazy. There will be so many car and house, contents insurance claims. I can't imagine how heavy the rain was to do that," one wrote.
One commenter described the picture as something they saw during Cyclone Gabrielle in Hawke's Bay in 2023.
Berhampore was hammered by the torrential downpours causing slips, landslides and evidently - flooding.
