ACT: 'We have to go further'

ACT leader David Seymour says the PREFU figures have "vindicated" his party's "drive for savings" in the coalition Government.
"The number one result is we cannot afford Labour," he said of the fiscal update while speaking with reporters in Auckland.
"The number two result is we cannot be complacent about the debt. These forecasts are better than a year ago, but the real comparison is compared with the PREFU before 2023.
"Compared with the same document in 2023, the debt is $16 billion dollars higher. In 2023, we were told we were told we'd have a $2b surplus now. Instead, we have a $9b deficit by the same measure.
"We have saved money in this government, but actually, nowhere near enough... We are going to have to go further and faster to save money and balance the books with no new taxes."
