Prime Minister Christopher Luxon has tried the IKEA meatball and has given it a thumbs up.
He said it tasted "just as I remember".
"Oh the meatball was great, I mean I use to travel all round, you know originally in London and Toronto and Chicago and I've got a lot of IKEA furniture at home so yeah it's been good."
Asked if he thought IKEA should be using New Zealand beef, he said "I'm not getting into that, that's a decision for IKEA".
The doors to New Zealand's first IKEA store in Auckland opened at 11am.
