Northern Coromandel saw 1-in-250-years levels of rain
Rainfall reached an amount of rain only seen once every 250 years in Northern Coromandel this week, Waikato Regional Council said, with parts of the peninsula seeing 300mm to 400mm of rain overnight.
"Ohinemuri River in Karangahake Gorge rose to 17.9 metres, which is 0.3 metres higher than its peak height during Cyclone Gabrielle," said the council.
