US to veto any amendments to its contested UN declaration on Ukraine
US officials say they will veto any amendments to their controversial proposal for a UN Security Council declaration on Ukraine,
which omits any mention of Russian aggression,
according to the FT.
Plans for a UN declaration to mark the third anniversary of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine have put the Trump administration at odds with European allies, who insist the statement should identify Russia as the aggressor in the war.
As a permanent member of the UN Security Council, the US has a veto on all Security Council declarations – as do the UK, France, Russia, and China.
